Executive Director of West Seattle Performing Arts, has been directing dance programs for the past 23 years. She has served as the Summer Dance Coordinator directing a national program and teaching for the Preparatory Dance Faculty at Cornish College of the Arts since 1994. She is part of the External Programming team for the college. She has been the acting Director of Dance for Vashon Center for the Arts since 1996 on Vashon Island, WA and the Artistic Director of the Vashon Center for the Arts, a pre-professional dance company, Christine has dedicated two decades bringing the classical and contemporary arts to communities in the Seattle area . She has directed and taught dance to diverse populations for the past 34 years.. Christine has also served on the dance faculty of Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a M.S. from Indiana University in Modern dance and Physical Sciences and a B.S. in Ballet and Music from the Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University. Christine is a Master Artist in Residence for the state of Washington and enjoys collaborative projects annually with classroom teachers integrating academics and movement She has staged numerous full length ballets. Christine is thrilled to introduce her program and stellar faculty to the artists of the community.
Adult Beginner/ Intermediate Ballet is a perfect class for those wishing to learn the fundamentals of classical Ballet or to build on a foundation of classical training already in place. There will be a focus on building strong core and proper alignment to allow the body to work economically and easily within it's structure. Barre work, stretching, center floor exercises and combinations across the floor will be introduced and taught for all types of learners. Jumping exercises will also be taught and options for lower impact jumps will be offered as an alternative. A love of moving, music, and camaraderie will all be embraced in this adult class. Attire: leggings, yoga pants, leotard, t-shirs, Ballet slippers, hair back, no jewelry and a good attitude!

Description: Yoga/ Pilates fusion is for those who want conditioning in a balanced way infusing flexibility with core strength and attention to proper technical execution of movements.

Katie McNamara Katie holds a Washington State ECE certification from Seattle Central Community College, and an Early Childhood Teacher Certificate from Burlington College in Burlington, VT. has been pursuing a healthy, active lifestyle in Seattle since 1992, when she moved here from Vermont. Katie owns, operates, and teaches a small, private preschool in West Seattle. Katie her husband and 10 year old daughter are West Seattlelites. Katie shares her love of fitness and mindfulness and personally trains in Aerobics yoga, free weights, running, swimming, biking and rollerblading, she enjoys it all! And if you haven’t run into her at the gym or the yoga studio, you may have seen her at the local natural food co-op. Katie is certified as a 200 hour Power Yoga Teacher from CorePower Yoga, and has also attained her Barre Teacher Certification from Adrienne Kimberly’s Barre Bohemian . She currently teaches yoga classes and mindfulness to her young students and Power Yoga to adults. She will be teaching Family Yoga, Power Yoga, and Barre at West Seattle Performing arts beginning in the Fall of 2016.

Description:The movement is aligned and linked with the breath so that you move with each inhale and exhale. Vinyasa-style yoga classes are ones where there is a dynamic flow from posture to posture. These classes are also often referred to as Flow Yoga or Power Yogaand are derived from Ashtanga yoga. I will lead you mindfully through each pose and we will take time to explore the positions. A great class to lengthen and open the body.
Katie McNamara is a certified yoga and Bohemian barre instructor. She teaches at West Seattle Health Club and numerous other clubs in West Seattle. She is an encouraging instructor who want to learn as much from her students as her students learn from her.
Attire: Suggested- Sweats, leggings, shorts. Tank top, t-shirt. Attire you can move well in. Shoes that grip, sneakers or rubber soles.

Broadway Jazz Dance | Wednesdays 10:30-11:30 | Adults| Choreography based on the hit musical " Hairspray!"
4 class Workshop January 31, February 7, 14,21 $90
Description: Join in and learn the basics of Broadway jazz or revisit your past training. Jazz warm up, isolations, as well as choreography taught from the hit musical " Hairspray" Each class will add on another section and by your 4th week you will know a dance . This class if for fun and may be followed up by another workshop pulling from another popular musical.
Instructor: Rena Bailey Barrett joins our West Seattle Community recently relocating from California where she was very involved in teaching, choreographing and staging musicals for all ages and levels. Rena teaches all levels of, jazz and modern, as well as other techniques. She holds a BFA in Dance from Unites States International University. She has taught Dance for 11 years at the College of the Canyons, and has also taught at the School for Creative Performing Arts in Sarasota Florida. She has been part of the Canyon Theater Guild and Santa Clara Regional Theater. She has dance on cruise ships and performed endlessly as a dancer in musical theater productions.
Attire: Leggings, T- shirt or leotard, Comfortable Clothing, jazz shoes, ballet slippers or socks.
