Class Dates: July 9,14,23 30 Aug.6, 13,
Instructor: Rachel Smith, WSPA Dance Faculty
Miss Smith has studied Ballet for 29 years, starting at the age of 5, and has danced with 10 studios over her career. Although Ballet has always been her main focus, she is well rounded in other styles of performing arts, having also trained in Modern, Jazz, Lyrical, and social dance such as Swing (East-Coast, Lindy) and Latin Dance (Salsa, Merengue, Bachata). Rachel has performed all over the PNW, having started at Betty Spooners in Everett, under the direction of Michael Jordan; Olympic Ballet Theatre in Edmonds, under the direction of Helen Wilkinson; WSU's jazz company, under the direction of Phyllis Gooden-Young; and most recently: MVP Dance Elite in Portland, under the direction of former professional ballerina Cynthia Tosh, who trained with Maria Tallchief. Rachel's varied background has gained her a wide perspective on different methods for teaching movement; learning what works well for students and how best to convey the complexities of Ballet to someone learning for the first time. Rachel hopes to impart her knowledge in a way that makes learning a difficult discipline, fun and rewarding.
